The Three Gorges Project

The Yangtze River has rich water resources. The Three Gorges Project is a key project in comprehensively harnessing and developing the Yangtze River. The Three Gorges project is located in Sandouping in Yichang, central China's Hubei province. With broad river valley and solid marble foundations, the three gorges cover an area of one million square kilometres with average runoff of nearly 500 billion cubic meters. The Yangtze River Project aims to store the water gradually and move local residents out continuously. With a length of 3035 meters, the normal storage of water level reaches 175 meters with the total storage of 39.3 billion cubic meters. After the completion of the Three Gorges project, it will function in power generation, flood-prevention, navigation, aquiculture, tourism, irrigation, ecological and environment protection, immigration with development, and diverts water from south to north.
